Plain weaving with Hand Ikat Dyed Cotton and Linen

My ancestral roots lie within a holistic structure of communing with all elements of nature, considering all aspects of the relationships between objects, time, and space, and oneself. Within this ability I am allowed to tap into something that is larger than myself and what comes through instinctually and naturally is what is engrained in any surface a viewer may interact with, create, and weave into existence. When one can look at an object and see a reflection of themselves, they realize the many stories and hands that allowed for this experience to exist. The historical figure of La Malinche is evoked by her complex identity within Mexican culture and what her existence has meant to many indigenous peoples since first contact with our Spanish colonizers. As the bearer of the first mixed child of the conquest, the shadows of this piece reflect the potential of her existence and my own.
